"Herbal Donuts: A Tribute To Dilla" is my audio Homage to the great Jay Dee aka J. Dilla one of the most influential producers, musicians, MC's & human beings of all time. The first song "Conversation With Dilla" pretty much explains how the reasoning for this EP came about. I was inspired to do this because Dilla is one of my favorite people of all-time & is an example of someone who genuinely loved the music & let his essence flow through his craft. I didn't get hip to Dilla's music until shortly before his death so, when he passed it was almost like meeting a newfound friend, building a relationship & then having this person suddenly torn away from you. Most of this material was written but, a good amount of it was freestyled because Dilla was known to be free-form with his music & I wanted my individual essence to speak through as well. Most of these beats aren't what you'd call "major" or "famous" Dilla beats such as say a "Lightworks" because I wanted it to have a more intimate & personal feel. I was inspired to use these beats in particular by my homie Toine of DTMD (http://DTMD.bandcamp.com). I recorded this entire EP in one hour while live on Ustream, the footage can be seen here Part 1 (http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/8241477) & Part 2 (http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/8242090). Lastly shout to Detroit, such a beautiful city culturally, & shout to Dilla, man. You are truly an inspiration & you will live on forever through your music, your family, your colleagues, and fans like me and millions of others who loved your music & grew to love & appreciate you. Can't thank you enough, man. Peace & Love.

His sound reflects just that. Whether rhyming with Hip-Hop lyricism or reflecting his Jamaican roots, he’s right at home. ... more
